ERA

ERA, WAS BORN IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA. AT THE AGE OF 8, ERA STARTED TO WRITE AND EXPRESS HERSELF THROUGH POETRY. AROUND THE AGE OF 10, SHE TAUGHT HERSELF TO PLAY SIMPLE CHORDS ON THE PIANO AND EVENTUALLY AS SHE GREW, SHE LEARNED TO PLAY THE GUITAR AND UKULELE.

SHE IS THE YOUNGEST OF SIX AND IS THE FIRST TO PURSUE A MUSIC CAREER IN HER FAMILY. HER PARENTS WERE ALWAYS WORKING TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY SO SHE WAS RAISED BY HER GRANDMOTHER. SHE COMES FROM A ETHNIC MINORITY GROUP KNOWN AS THE HMONG (MONG) PEOPLE. ERA IS HOPING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND IN THE WORLD AS AN LGBT ASIAN WOMAN.

EVERYONE HAS A WAY OF EXPRESSING THEMSELVES. FOR ERA, WRITING IS ONE OF THE MAIN FORMS THAT SHE USES TO COPE WITH HER INNER AND OUTER WORLD. ERA HOPES TO SHARE HER EXPERIENCES, INSIGHTS, AND IMAGINATION THROUGH MUSIC FOR OTHERS WHO CAN RELATE. MANY PEOPLE FEAR BEING VULNERABLE AND OPEN TO A WORLD THAT’S BROKEN AND BRUISED BUT THROUGH HER WRITING, ERA HOPES SHE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES BY EXPRESSING HER OWN VULNERABILITY THROUGH MUSIC.
